Paramount Slate Generates $5Bn Worldwide in 2011

Paramount celebrated another table topping performance for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in the week the studio announced its films crossed $5bn worldwide in 2011.

Tom Cruise and company (pictured) held on to number one in the third weekend as the film added $29.6m to reach $132.5m, but the bigger news was the studio's overall performance last year.

A combined $1.96bn in North America ensured first place among the studios, as did $3.2bn internationally, which as previously reported on Screendaily marked the first time any company has crossed $3bn outside North America in a calendar year.

Warner Bros' Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows ranks second on $21m for $131m after three weekends while DreamWorks' War Horse has grossed $40.4m after two through Buena Vista.

Sony's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake ranks fourth and has taken $55.8m after two.

The Iron Lady opened through TWC on a mighty $221,000 in four venues for a formidable $55,250 per-site average.

The acclaimed Iranian arthouse film A Separation opened through SPC on $59,400 from three while Focus opened Pariah on $48,600 from four. …
