Back in 2006, former IAJRC president Phil Pospychala and I ventured out to DeKalb, a town about 60 miles west of Chicago to see the legendary 93-year old Franz Jackson perform with a group of local musicians at the House Café, a coffee house on the historic Lincoln Highway. It was a memorable occasion and my only chance to ever see Franz as he left us in early 2008.

But the band backing him, led by local DeKalb resident John Skillman, has now made it to Bob Koester's Delmark recording studio and left its mark for posterity. …
