This disc has two veteran players, Brostrom and Calderazzo and two who have been on the scene not quite a decade, Sjostedt and Fredriksson. The four make up a very interesting and hard working quartet of very modern jazz but within the tradition, that is, it is not difficult to comprehend and enjoy.

Calderazzo is the only non-Swede in the group. He cut his recording teeth with Michael Brecker way back in the late 1980s and has made a large number of recordings since then including quite a few where he is the leader. Brostrom goes back another several years but most of his work has been in his native land. The bassist and drummer first recorded in 2002 and again in Sweden for their entire output as I know of it. Calderazzo has not recorded with this group prior to this but you would never detect that in the evidence on hand.

The program is made up of three tunes from Brostrom, two each from Calderazzo and Martin Sjosted and one each from Richie Beirich and Dan Grainick. They lead off with a hard bop offering with Brostrom playing alto sax. He then picks up the soprano for "Nothing Personal" and this is a hard swinging funky offering. Next they slow things up to a medium tempo and it is a nice contrast. …
