MY FAVORITE THINGS is not just the title of a hit song from the musical The Sound of Music. This month it's also a list of things that bring me special joy where the focus is on [hearts] as well as a determination to make it through the shortest month of the year (which, with the dreary weather in certain parts of the country, can seem like the longest!). I hope some of these favorite things resonate with you!

I [hearts] hearing about AGO chapters that warmly welcome new members and make everyone attending a program feel glad they are there.

I [hearts] news that a POE has been oversubscribed because so many young people want to learn more about the organ.

I [hearts] uncovering talent - in a congregation, in students - and helping musicians who are a bit rusty feel comfortable using their gifts.

I [hearts] AGO members who love TAO and eagerly await its arrival each month. I'm not kidding - I think it is wonderful that the magazine means so much to them.

I [hearts] AGO members who give me feedback on these monthly columns.

I [hearts] piano and organ technicians who are not only capable and dedicated and who ensure that the instruments are tuned but who come quickly in an emergency.

I [hearts] members of the congregation who bring me bulletins from churches where they have worshiped, with comments on the music they have heard and a hymn or anthem they'd like us to sing.

I [hearts] seminary students telling me that something we discussed in class made a difference in their worship planning and in their services.

I [hearts] computers and LCD projectors that actually work - in church services, workshop presentations, and the classroom. …
