The Commerce Department has opened eight new competitions in support of innovative, costshared industrial research and development under its advanced technology program (ATP), President Clinton and Commerce Secretary William M. Daley affirmed.

The competitions consist of the 1998 general competition and seven focused program competitions covering catalysis and biocatalysis technology, digital video in information networks, and tools for DNA diagnostics-three current ATP programs- and four new programs-microelectronics manufacturing infrastructure, selective-membrane platforms, photonics manufacturing, and premium power. This round of competitions will the be the first one of Fiscal Year 1998.

Full proposals for the general competition and tools for DNA diagnostics are due by March 18, 1998. Pre-proposals for the other competitions are due February 27, 1998. Full proposals for microelectronics manufacturing, photonics manufacturing, and premium power are due April 8, 1998. Full proposals for catalysis and biocatalysis, digital video, and selective-membrane platforms are due April 22, 1998.
