Local government veteran Frank Masters (right) died on January 13. He was 92.

Tony Redmond writes: Frank Masters was a stalwart of local government finance. Having been treasurer of Huyton District Council, he took on the role of borough treasurer of the newly formed Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council in 1974, a considerable challenge at that time. His strong professional principles, coupled with his uncompromising management style, enabled the council to establish a sound financial footing He was a traditional local government officer who sought the highest standards from those around him. A 'hands on' treasurer, he was quite ready to visit recalcitrant ratepayers or awkward customers himself to explain the error of their ways. Tough and steely but also extremely likeable, he cared about the service and its people and he leaves some special memories for those who knew him. …
