Michael Lynton Named CEO of Sony Corporation of America

Nicole Seligman will become president, outgoing Sony Corp chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer and his successor Kazuo Hirai announced on Thursday (29).

Lynton will oversee Sony's entertainment businesses encompassing Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), Sony Music Entertainment and Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Seligman will take responsibility of Sony's US headquarters operations.

Lynton will remain chairman and CEO of SPE and will continue to run the studio with co-chairman Amy Pascal. Seligman will remain evp and general counsel of Sony Corporation.

No management changes are planned at SPE. Lynton will continue to be based in California at the studio's world headquarters in Culver City and will travel to New York. Seligman will continue to work in New York and Tokyo.

The promotions become effective Jun 27. Hirai becomes CEO and president of Sony Corp on Apr 1 and Stringer will continue as chairman until Jun 27 when he is expected to become chairman of the Sony board of directors. Stringer also served as chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation Of America since 1998 and from Jun 27 Hirai will become chairman of the board of Sony Corporation Of America.

As of Jun 27, Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris, Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Martin Bandier and Pascal will report to Lynton, who along with Seligman will report to Hirai.
