Away from the superhero antics of The Avengers, Universal Pictures International (UPI) enjoyed a landmark weekend as American Pie: Reunion crossed $100m, Battleship cruised past $200m and Dr. Seuss' The Lorax crossed $300m worldwide.

American Pie: Reunion (pictured) grossed a terrific $34m from 4,672 venues in 48 territories to bring the running total to $117.2m. The Universal comedy opened in eight territories led by an outstanding $10.2m in the UK from 485 to rank second behind The Avengers.

The comedy was similarly positioned in France on $4.9m from 476 and stole number one from The Avengers in Italy, Spain and Belgium on $3.4m from 291, $2.9m from 338 and 1.4m from 58, respectively.

American Pie: Reunion added $5.8m in Germany from 630 for $15.8m in its second weekend and stayed top in its second session in Austria as the tally climbed to $2.8m. There are seven territories to go.

Battleship grossed $11m from 9,080 sites in 52 territories to propel the running total to $200.1m and opened top in Israel on $156,000 from 23 and second in South Africa on $316,000 from 79. China was the top holdover on $4.8m from 3,000 for $42.5m, making it Universal's highest release in the territory.

The action film held firm as the top import in Japan for the fourth weekend in a row, adding $1.2m from 341 for $16.7m. The Latin American markets begin on May 10 with Argentina, Chile and Peru.

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax grossed $2.7m from 2,606 in 45 for $92.4, which combined with the $209m North American tally for $301.4m. The family film arrived in South Korea on $1.3m from 249. There are 15 territories to go over the next few months including Italy on Jun 1, France on Jul 18, Germany on Jul 19 and the UK on Jul 27.
