Ministers were urged to extend local pay plans to councils

BRIAN BERRY: One assumes that MPs will also have their pay based on local economic factors for the large portion of their time spent in their constituencies rather than the time they spend in London - but probably not.

BEN JAY: We need to exercise caution here. While the pay spine for local government is agreed nationally, and might be subject to change nationally, the allocation of jobs to points on the pay spine is already a matter of local decision-making. Councils naturally seek to keep costs down and hold pay in line with local pay.
