Article excerpt

Every 5 years, NASP conducts a national survey of school psychologists to find out who we are, the contexts under which we work, and what we do. Communiqué is proud to present the results of the fifth such survey (the first was in 1981-1990) starting in this issue, where you will be able to find out about our demographics, credentialing and level of graduate training, where we work, student-toschool psychologist ratios, and much more. In the June issue, this report will continue with information about the kinds of services we provide, our professional practices, and an assessment of the changes in our field since the last survey. Take a look at this important article and see how your situation compares to others in the profession. This survey is really a valuable service to NASP and to all of us. Thanks are due to all three authors of this study, with special thanks to Mike Curtis for his participation and leadership on every survey since 1981.

Everyone should also be proud of our colleagues who received awards at the convention in Philadelphia. Communiqué highlights two such people in this issue: Patti Harrison, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ben Fernandez, recipient of the School Psychologist of the Year Award. Read about them on pages 18 and 19 and join all of school psychology in congratulating these two exemplary colleagues.

Other important articles in this issue include ones about supporting the social and emotional well-being of our students, advocating for professional supervision, ethics, legal issues, mentorship of first-year students, technology and the effects of multitasking, and the upcoming School Psychology Futures Conference. …
