Madagascar 3 Surges Past $100M as Hold Session Beckons

DreamWorks Animation's latest release stands at $104.9m through Paramount Pictures International and crossed the milestone on Wednesday (13) after less than a week in release in most of the initial wave of 28 territories.

Now the emphasis will be on consolidating the early gains and PPI executives will look to robust launches in around 14 territories this weekend including South Africa.

Privately, executives at DreamWorks Animation expect the film to finish in the $600-800m range worldwide and there can be no denying the strength of a flying start that has propelled Madagascar 3 past $184m in less than seven days.

Thus far it has amassed $25.8m in Russia, $13.1m in Brazil, $11.5m in China, $11m in France and $9.1m in Mexico.

Paramount's The Dictator has taken $71.9m and strides into Italy, Italian-speaking Switzerland and Singapore.

Rock Of Ages opens day-and-date with North America in four heavy-hitters this weekend, launching in the UK, Germany, Russia and Australia through Warner Bros Pictures International. Dark Shadows has reached $131m.

Snow White And The Huntsman is one of several titles expected to cross $100m. …
