Guinier to Join Faculty at Harvard Law School

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lani Guinier has been appointed. professor of law at the Fla ard Law School. A specialist in the area of voting rights law, she will begin teaching at the school this fall.

Calling Guinier "a gifted and extraordinarily effective teacher" and a "firstrate scholar," Robert Clark, dean of the law school, said, "Her presence will further the mission of Harvard Law School to produce the best possible legal education and scholarship. I also expect her appointment will help the school to attract other top scholars of iverse backgrounds, including more women of color."

Currently, Guinier is a professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she has taught since 1988. She receved tenure there in 1992. The Havard appointment is a fully trnured position.

Previously, Guinier was a clerk in the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan; a Juvinile Court referee in Wayne County, Michigan; the Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the U. …
