Arte Backs Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac

Feature stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as a woman who recounts her erotic life from birth to 50-years-old.

Arte France Cinema has boarded Lars von Trier's upcoming production Nymphomaniac which is due to start shooting from mid-August in Germany.

The decision to back the film was sealed at a meeting of Arte France Cinema's selection committee on Monday.

The picture reunites von Trier with actors Stellan Skarsgard, who has appeared in a number of his films include Breaking the Waves as the paralysed protagonist Jan, and Gainsbourg, who previously appeared in Antichrist and Melancholia.

Gainsbourg, will play a broken woman who recounts her erotic life to an old man over the course of a night.

Other companies attached to the project, being produced by Peter Aalbaek Jensen at Zentropa, include Paris-based Slot Machine which has been involved in nearly all of von Trier's features to date. …
