A well meaning teacher organized a game for her students to help instill that competitive edge that allegedly would help the child fend his or her way through their journey into adulthood. Each student had a balloon tied to one of their ankles, and the purpose of the game was to destroy the opponents' balloons while protecting one's own. As the game proceeded, the balloons were popped and reduced to shreds of latex and string, and as the purpose of the game was realized, one student's balloon remained intact and she was declared me "winner." The same game was introduced to a class of developmentally delayed students, again by a well meaning teacher hoping to instill some personal confidence and positive self-image. The rules were explained and the game proceeded. The teacher noticed that the students were not really getting the purpose of the game. …
