Barbican Centre announce opening programme for its new cinemas.

The Barbican Centre has announced that its new cinemas with open with a five-strand season of films entitled Step Into The Dark, running Nov 2-Dec 9.

Alongside the recently refurbished Barbican Cinema 1 which seats 288, Barbican Cinemas 2 & 3 - each seating 156 - will hold the six-week season of films aimed at exploring dystopia, the sublime and the surreal on screen, connecting across other work happening in the Centre. One strand, Seven Deadly Sins, will invite people from the arts world, including the likes of Sam Taylor Wood, Mike Leigh and Richard Ayoade, to select a film that they feel best represents one of the seven sins.

The four other strands making up the Step Into The Dark season are Everyday I Have the Blues (exploring jazz and blues on screen), Dark Heart of Fairy Tales (screening twisted takes on fairy tales), Suppression/Expression (showcasing films from the 60s/70s involved in the culture of resistance) and Silent Horror and Live Music (including three German Expressionist silent horrors). …
