FOCUS: Are You Easy to Buy?

How easy do you make it for people to book you or your group? Better yet, how easy do you make it for people to pay for you or your group? How easy is it for you to sell CDs or T-shirts online, at performances, or on the street?

Over the years we found that price points for CDs and logo wear were either in the $10 or $20 area because people could throw a $10 or $20 bill at you and you didn't have to make change. The items were easy to buy.

It's different today. More and more people are using less and less cash. Think about it. People send checks in the mail from online checking accounts, rather than using paper checks. You can make purchases or sell items today using PayPal. Money goes right to your bank, or goes right to the seller. Then there's plastic. Debit and credit cards are more prevalent for even the cheapest items. Also, you better have a Square Card Reader. Uh, oh. Not sure what that is? The Square Card Reader is for smartphones from Square Up. Are you aware that it even exists? That little black or white plastic device that goes into your iPhone or Android can swipe a credit or debit card for a $15 CD or a $3,000 gig. This is nothing new. When you go to the Apple Store a roving employee checks you out while they're standing next to you at the display table. How do they do this? With that little white tab attached to their iPhones. Originally, I thought this was only for Apple, but it turns out anyone can do it. …
