CBS Films Hires Scott Derrickson for Deus Ex; Snaps Up Last Exorcism Sequel

In a big day for the distributor, top brass announced on Thursday (15) that Derrickson will direct the adaptation Deus Ex: Human Revolution based on the smash video game franchise. Earlier in the day CBS Films said it has acquired US rights from StudioCanal to The Last Exorcism Part II.

Derrickson will write the screenplay for Deus Ex: Human Revolution with C Robert Cargill, with whom he collaborated on the recent hit Sinister. Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh are attached to produce and John P Middleton will serve as executive producer.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution takes place in a near future of bio-enhancements as a SWAT security specialist must learn to accept mechanical enhancements in order to unravel a global conspiracy. Executive vp of production Maria Faillace and creative executive Alex Ginno will oversee for CBS Films.

Turning to The Last Exorcism: Part II, CBS Films plans a wide Mar 1 release and will push back its ensemble comedy The To Do List to August. …
