Steve Freer to Step Down after 12 Years

CIPFA chief executive Steve Freer has announced that he is to step down from the institute at some point over the next 12 months.

Freer, who has been in the role for more than 12 years, said the decision to leave had been tough. 'If s a brilliant job and a great organisation. I really have enjoyed every moment,' he said.

'CIPFA and its members make such an important contribution to the public services. Our members are handling some of the most challenging roles in the profession, and doing so with amazing skill.'

He complimented members on their commitment and conscientiousness at a time of severe public spending cuts. Although it is an incredibly tough period, I am absolutely certain that, when we get to the other side, people will feel proud of the job that they have done to maintain critically important services and to keep organisations afloat,' he told Public Finance. …
