Hay to head fire and rescue

Alasdair Hay has been named as the chief officer of the new national Scottish fire & rescue service and will oversee the transition from eight brigades to one next April. Hay is acting chief fire officer in Tayside and will take up the £165,000 a year post in the autumn. Community safety minister Roseanna Cunningham said Hay had showed 'genuine commitment' to the new structure.

NI APPRENTICE BOOST

Thirty people to be recruited for IT

Northern Ireland has launched an apprenticeship scheme for the information technology sector. Under the scheme, which involves the government and several local IT employers, more than 30 people will be recruited and trained for roles in the public and private sectors. Finance Minister Sammy Wilson said it showed that the public and private sectors could work together to benefit Northern Ireland.
