Imagine being arrested and jailed for voting in a municipal election. That's the analogy that Victor Carrozzino, an employee of the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) union uses to describe the alleged blacklisting of Mexican migrant workers. Over the last few years, workers in the Canadian Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (CSWAP) have been banned from re-entering Canada by the Mexican government - for no reason other than joining the UFCW.

Last autumn, UFCW received evidence that the Mexican Consulate in Vancouver was sending information about unionized seasonal workers to authorities in Mexico, suggesting that they should be prevented from re-entering Canada. UFCW promptly took the documents to the BC Labour Relations Board and launched a campaign called 'Stop the Blacklisting of Migrant Workers'. …
