Far South by David Enrique Spellman (Serpent's Tail ISBN 9781846688102)

It seems the arrival of the e-book is leading publishers and authors to trick out the trusty old printed page with all manner of technological flim-flam. David Enrique Spellman's novel Far South is just such a hybrid. On the face of it, the book is a solid thriller in the gumshoe tradition. A radical theatre director, Gerardo Fischer has disappeared from an artists' colony in Argentina and the other members of the collective hire private eye Juan Manuel Pérez to investigate. The novel is told in the form of extracts from Perez's notebook, witness statements and, oddly, a comic-book diary drawn by the collective's set designer. The investigation discovers links to organized crime, Israel, Palestine and Nazi war criminals.

Here's the technology part: scattered throughout the book are Quick Response codes which link to the website far-south, org where the reader can watch short films, see the witnesses give their statements and participate in the developing Far South project. …
