BEST GRANOLA

It's taken more than 30 years, but it looks like the '60s may be losing steam. Gun barrels outnumber flower stems, tie-dye no longer merits a Converse high-top color, and it's really starting to seem like Jerry Garcia isn't coming back. But granola is here to stay. We went in search of the best of this generation and found it.

Clementine's Fruit and Nut Granola

1. In a large bowl, mix 6 cups regular rolled oats, 2 cups almonds, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. In a smaller bowl, whisk together 1 cup honey, 3/4 cup canola oil, and 1 tablespoon vanilla. Stir honey mixture into oat mixture until well blended. Spread mixture in a lightly oiled 12- by 15-inch baking pan. 2. Bake in a 350 deg regular or 325 deg convection oven until golden brown, 20 50 25 minutes. With a wide metal spatula, stir ganola, scraping sides and bottom of pan. Reduce heat to 225 deg and continue to bake 1 hour, stirring several times. Let cool completely in pan, then scrape into an airtight container. 3. In a smaller airtight container, combine 2/3 cup dried sour cherries, 2/3 cup dried canberries, and 2/3 cup slivered dried appricots. …
