Amid the soft, screechy tones of 1997 dial-up Internet, spj.org emerged, its home page sporting the title "The Electronic Journalist."

"You'll find everything you need to stay current in the fastpaced world of today's journalism," a Quill ad proclaims. The screen shots of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer browsers humorously contradict the 201 3 idea of fast-paced journalism.

The past 16 years have been an ever-accelerating growth spurt for Web-based technology. In 1 997, a print ad drives traffic to the Internet, an outdated and backward strategy by today's standards. The Electronic Journalist logo incorporates an electrical cord, while 2013 journalists are mobile. By today's design standards, 1997 spj. org's use of Times New Roman is almost quaint.
