What Wales Is Doing to Attract Your Business

The Welsh Development Agency (WDA) has implemented several no-cost programs to attract foreign direct investment. Brief descriptions of some of them follow to give you an idea of what to look for during your inquiries of different agencies. Centers of Excellence. The WDA has identified the particular industry training needs of foreign companies in the region and then has customized university and college courses to meet those needs.

Train the Trainers Program. Recognizing that organizations often require company-specific training programs for new employees above and beyond the college curriculum, the WDA offers to fund the training of trainers. The company selects a small group of people, either from Wales or the home country, and the WDA pays for their training back home. Then the trainers return to Wales to train local workers.

Wales Semiconductor Training Center. This is a joint venture arrangement with a company called Modis based in Phoenix. The center offers virtual reality semiconductor training programs allowing participants to train without the huge investment usually required for training equipment. …
