Record floods prompt extra funding

The Welsh Government has given extra funding for flood defences after many business and homes in Mid and North Wales experienced serious flooding last year. Environment minister John Griffiths said trie funds would aid coastal risk schemes in Conwy and Denbighshire, as well as Environment Agency programmes.

NI ratepayers to get help with debts

Rate debt in Northern Ireland has almost doubled in five years, rising to £160m in 2011/12, the Northern Ireland Assembly's Public Accounts Committee found. Chair Michaela Boyle urged rate collectors Land & Property Services to help ratepayers pay their debts. With over 26,000 properties awaiting revaluation, occupiers could be over- or underpaying.
