Wales proposes rights overhaul

Legislation has been introduced into the Welsh Assembly to transform the provision of social services in the country. The Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Bill provides national eligibility criteria for services, brings in rights for carers and makes provision for the extension of direct payments.


NI schools funding for primaries

Ten primary schools across Northern Ireland are to share £1.1m of funding to develop 'nurture units', taking the total in the country to 30. Nurture units work with small groups of children in schools to help them overcome social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Education Minister John O'Dowd said: 'Nurture units can play a key role in tackling underachievement.'
