The National Audit Office is to continue its work on defence with a series of reports on the Ministry of Defence's transformation programme. One of these will be a specific examination of the delivery of the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers and the decision to revert to the short takeoff and vertical landing variant of the US Joint Strike Fighter. Auditors will check the value-for-money analyses and whether the MoD is on track to deliver the agreed outcome.


The Northern Ireland Audit Office is examining what public sector employers are doing to manage staff sickness absence. The report, to be published in March, will include an analysis of the main patterns of sickness absence and comparisons between and across sectors. It will extend and update a 2008 report on the civil service.
