Bobby Broom is not a stranger to these pages. My first review of this man is in our August 2008 issue, page 70. I refer you to that review as what I said there still stands today. Broom is a native New Yorker but has been in the Chicago area much longer than he lived in his city of birth. He moved to Chicago in 1984 and this 51 year old jazzman has been there ever since. Beside working with his trio of many years that you hear on this disc, he also teaches at DePaul University and also works as a clinician at various high schools in this Midwest metropolis. He is steeped in he blues. This disc, for the first time, is made up entirely of his own compositions that he has written over the years.

What makes this recording so interesting is the long lines he improvises. He surely must have heard and experienced a lot of music. He did work with Al Haig in a club in New York City at the age of 16 and later attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. …
