This is a very satisfying mainstream jazz disc. Chuck Redd leads a fine group of musicians in a program that at times is a quintet, quartet, trio, duo and even a solo (The Shadow Of Your Smile is a vibes solo). This makes for a fast moving and interesting program of mostly well-known tunes. However throw in Duke Ellington's seldom heard Purple Gazelle and Tommy Flanagan's Beat's Up plus two originals - Old Man Roker and the title tune and it only gets better. …
