The first in a series of breakfast seminars was hosted by Women In Defense (WID) on Friday, February 27, 1998 at NDIA Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The topic, "Acquisition Reform Training Resources: Tools for Reinvention" was sponsored by the RTRC Institute of Fairfax, Virginia.

The quest for acquisition reform excellence continues to have a profound impact on the business practices of government and industry. Despite this, many wonder how diverse acquisition reform activities fit together and whether the reforms are truly effective-or merely the latest fad.

The meeting featured speakers noted for acquisition reform training expertise who discussed the strategy, vision, and the results of their training efforts. Guest speakers included Ms. Alex Bennet, Director of Communications, Training and Education, Acquisition Reform Office of the Navy; Ms. Betty Franklin, Program Analyst, Acquisition Reform Communications Center, Defense Acquisition University; and Mr. Allan Robb, Assistant Vice President for Education and Training, and Director of the BRTRC Institute, BRTRC Technical Research Corporation.

All speakers noted that many tools and methods are available for the asking to organizations that wish to mitigate cost while continuing the momentum of effective acquisition reform training. For example, the Navy disseminates Navy acquisition reform training and initiatives to the widest audience possible on its Internet site (www.acqref.navy.mil). This site also provides the Acquisition Reform Update newsletter and is very popular with the public; it had over five million hits in 1997, averaging over 100,000 hits weekly. …
