The plot of The Quickening (A r row / Hammer, £9.99) by Ju l ie Myer son (pictured) revolves around pregnant, newlywed Rachel and her sinister husband, Dan. Rachel's ghostly journey begins when Dan suggests a hol iday in Ant igua . Even though Rachel has a creepy premonition when she see s a photog raph o f her Ca r ibbean de st inat ion , she 's not deterred. Of course, strange things happen when they arrive.

Psychic taxi- drivers mumble cryptic warnings. A clairvoyant waitress tea r fu l ly begs Rachel to leave the island. Light-fittings fly off the walls.
