BBC Films is to make a new comedy film about William Shakespeare.

Bill, written by Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, centres on a hopeless lute player Bill Shakespeare, who leaves his family and home to follow his dream.

The film will star the actors of the BAFTA-winning TV series Horrible Histories - Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Rickard and Willbond - in multiple roles.

Richard Bracewell will direct with Charles Steel at Cowboy Films and Tony Bracewell & Richard Bracewell at Punk Cinema producing. Joe Oppenheimer at BBC Films will executive produce.
