MUSIC Mo7it Al-Mo7it by Jerusalem in My Heart (Constellation 093 LP/CD/download)

Created in 2005 by Lebanese artist-musician Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, Jerusalem in My Heart is not so much a group of musicians as one of artists for whom an album of music - Mo7it Al-Mo7it - is a catalogue of sorts for their wider activities. Coming out of the same Montreal experimental scene that spawned Godspeed You! Black Emperor, JIMH (that is, Moumneh, plus French musician Jérémie Regnier and Chilean visual artist Malena Szlam Salazar) is a sound and vision project that examines a social, political and musical architecture of Arabic sound - language and music - in a wider world.

Roughly speaking, Mo7it Al-Mo7it is a collision of electronic music and Arabic song. There's quite a bit of buzouk and zurna (a Near Eastern reed instrument) and Moumeh's arching, sighing voice features on most of the album's seven tracks. …
