URSULA THRUSH PEACE SEED GRANT

The Ursula Thrush Peace Seed Grant is given annually to a Montessorian who has formulated a project that fosters education for peace. This grant was created by the American Montessori Society Peace Committee to honor the memory of Ursula Thrush, whose dedication to fulfilling Maria Montessori's vision for peace through children opened doors to many Montessori educators, inspiring them to include peace education in their classrooms and communities.

This year, there are three recipients, each of whom received a grant of $1,100.

Vera Alexander, Thacher Montessori School, Chestnut Hill, MA

Project: "Montessori 4 Autism - Releasing the Inner Child"

The grant will help support Vera's website for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders, as well as her related advocacy work. This grant was underwritten by Lesley Nan Habcrman of The Family Schools in New York City.

Pamela Leudke, The Olive Branch for Children Charity, Tanzania

Project: Montessori Outreach Program

The Olive Branch for Children charity, based in Tanzania, reaches over 900 children, and its Montessori Outreach program focuses on bringing early childhood education to remote communities. …
