John V. Brown is an unusual person and a fine bass player. He was a child prodigy and was playing bass before he was 10 and working in a symphony orchestra (Fayetteville, NC) by 13 and he was the principle bassist in that same orchestra while still in high school. He holds a doctorate from the University of North Carolina and is now an associate professor of the practice of music and the director of the Duke Jazz Program. Beside all that, he is a performing jazz musician. …
