Ms. Burson, a native Arkansan of Fayetteville who studied at Boston's Berklee School of Music, has played locally up an down the northwest corridor of the state with the same sidemen since 1998. On this recording the multi-instrumentalist Larry Cangelosi is added on three tracks to advantage. Claudia starts the set with the Joe Henderson line Black Narcissus in a percussive and swinging manner, demonstrating a good attack; there is a fine bass solo by Johnson and the whole is wrapped up nicely by the group. The tenor introduces the melody in the second number, Softly As In A Morning Sunrise, and then Claudia enters to Steve's brushes in a nice, fluent way. …
