JANET JACKSON has been an activist for AIDS prevention and research for a long time and in February she was honored by amfAR, an organization she has been involved with for the past 15 years. Jackson will also chair one of the highlights of the Cannes Film Festival: the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala May 23 at the Hotel du Cap.

Founded in 1985, amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, has invested more than $366 million into research grants and other programs dealing with education, prevention and advocacy.

The Cinema Against AIDS gala has raised more than $80 million in the past two decades.

At the 2013 amfAR New York Gala, Jackson received the Award of Courage for using her visibility as a musical icon to help improve the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS around the globe. Designer Kenneth Cole and Heidi Klum were also honored at the event, which raised more than $2. …
