How much do you know about the Library of Congress (LC)? If you think you know plenty, take a peek at some of these facts and figures:

* As the world's largest library, the LC has 155.3-million-plus items resting on about 838 miles of bookshelves.

* The LC features more than 35 million books (and print materials), 3.4 million recordings, 13.6 million photos, 5.4 million maps, 6.5 million pieces of sheet music, and 68 million manuscripts.

* About 11,000 items are added to the LC's collections daily.

* About 50% of the LC's collection of books and serials are in English; the other 50% of the collection are in about 470 languages.

* The largest book in the LC's collection, which contains color photos of Bhutan, measures 5' by 7'. The smallest is Old King Cole. It measures 0.04" by 0.04" , which is equivalent to the size of the period at the end of this sentence.
