It's important for older travelers to know that Medicare will not pay for doctors and other medical costs incurred abroad.

Private insurance policies may not cover overseas expenses either, and even those that do often put strict limits on benefits. Read your policies carefully before you travel and weigh the advisability of buying supplemental health coverage for your time abroad.
