EBSCO Publishing's Collectanea to Be Revamped into Corporate ResearchNet This Fall
EBSCO Publishing has announced that it has unveiled its plans for a fall '98 introduction of Corporate ResearchNet, a metamorphosis of the Collectanea Corporate DeskTop Library service into a more richly featured research tool for the company intranet. The announcement was made last month at the National Online Meeting.
The service combines periodical information and a company directory in a single, hyperlinked Web-based environment. In addition to natural-language search capability and full text with hyperlinks to company profiles, the company says that Corporate ResearchNet will offer new software features, integration with EBSCO Information Services, administrative controls and expanded reporting capabilities, and more flexible pricing and purchase options.
Corporate ResearchNet will offer a Boolean search option with results presented in reverse chronological order as well as the natural-language search capability with results presented in relevance order. This new service will incorporate browsable Subject and Journal authority files that complement the searchable journal and title files as well as simplify the process of isolating a subject or title to search, says EBSCO. The option to simultaneously search multiple databases will also be offered as a means of reducing the number of searches that a user needs to conduct when searching across different data types. Once a search is complete, users will be able to select multiple results for printing or downloading. In addition, images will be embedded rather than hyperlinked, and an option to display an article without images will be offered.
According to the company, Corporate ResearchNet will enable corporations to conveniently access those EBSCO services they already use or plan to use in the future, including document delivery from EBSCO Document Services and online electronic journal subscriptions from EBSCO Online. …
