First up: If you haven't paid your dues for 2013, please do so. Reminder notices have been sent to those of you who have not yet sent in your dues. (If you have already renewed, please ignore this plea for payment, and reward yourself with a free can of Red Bull! If you find one, let me know where.) IAJRC depends solely on dues money to pay for the publication of the quarterly Journal, postage, mailings, and other costs attendant to running IAJRC as a volunteer organization supported solely by its members! IAJRC is NOT a for-profit business; we have no fallback as regards revenue streams. Any member who does not stay current on dues is lessening our ability to provide a quality publication and a connection for like-minded people to enjoy the hobby and dedication of jazz record collecting.

An important point to know about how your dues money: It is NOT used for the Annual Convention. Costs are borne by the Convention Planning Committee, which has its own budget and acts as the contractor paying for all Convention-related expenses. Revenue is derived from registration fees, vendor fees, banquet tickets, sale of raffle tickets, cost reductions achieved from the number of registered guests staying in our host hotel, donations from sponsors, etc. End of speech. Now let's see those late dues come in. Thank you!

Our Annual Convention is coming up September 5-7. This year, it is being held in another cradle of Jazz-Kansas City, Missouri! Host hotel is the Marriott Country Club Plaza Hotel. Ian Tiele and the Convention Planning Committee have worked hard for months getting a program ready. For details, see inside this issue. Personally, I am looking forward to visiting the Marr Sound Archives. I have heard great things about it from people who have visited and seen photos showing the office layout, rows of towering files, and record stacks. …
