The summer session neared a conclusion over Labor Day Weekend as One Direction: This Is Us, Morgan Spurlock's documentary about the UK-Irish pop sensation, opened top on an estimated $17m through Sony's TriStar label over three days.

Four-day results will emerge on Monday when it is possible that Lee Daniels' The Butler could finish on top. Both titles are on track to finish the holiday weekend session in the $19m-$20m range.

TWC's aforementioned drama fell to number two on $14.7m and has generated $74m after three weekends.

Liosngate's Spanish and English-language comedy drama Instructions Not Included opened at number five on $7.5m while Warner Bros' Ethan Hawke thriller Getaway flopped at number on $4.5m.

Focus Features' thriller Closed Circuit arrived at number 15 on $2.5m and has taken $3.1m since it opened on Aug 28. Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall star.

Brian De Palma's Passion opened through eOne on $33,800 from 14. Afternoon Delight opened through The Film Arcade on $28,100 from two for a strong $14,050 per-site average. …
