IDFA Selects 11 IBF-Backed Documentaries

Eleven documentaries made with financial support from the IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF) will screen at this year's festival, which runs Nov 20-Dec 1.

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) has selected eleven documentaries that were made with financial support from the IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF) to screen at this year's festival.

Each year, the IBF provides support in two selection rounds to documentary projects from development countries.

The 11 selected are included in various sections across the IDFA programme, with three screening in competition: Talal Derki's Return to Homs will compete in the IDFA competition for feature-length documentary, while Farida Pacha's My Name is Salt and Annalet Steenkamp's I, Afrikaner [pictured] will both compete in the IDFA competition for first appearance.

Six of the 11 IBF-backed films were projects at the IDFA WorldView Summer School, an annual training programme for new filmmakers, while three were also presented as projects at IDFA's co-finance market, the IDFA Forum. …
