Partners to Start $10M Animation Hugo in 2014

Anima Point (Malaysia) is partnering with Trixter (Munich, Berlin, LA), Einstein Film (Denmark) and Anima Vitae (Finland) to produce the 3D animated feature film Hugo, the partners confirmed at MIPCOM.

The $10m project will start production in 2014 for delivery in 2106.

The story, based on the Danish Hugo troll franchise, is about a washed-up TV star who gets his comeback opportunity on a show called The World's Worst Dad.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, AnimaPoint is a joint venture between award-winning animation studio Anima Vitae, Finland, and Creative Media Point, Malaysia.

Anima Point is just one of a record-breaking 60 Malaysian companies attending MIPCOM 2013. A Malaysian reception yesterday in Cannes announced deals worth more than $50m. Malaysia's creative industries are booming thanks to government support, the new Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios launch, and the new Film in Malaysia Incentive, among other factors. …
