`20 tried and tested activities for promoting and maintaining team learning'

The constant challenge for leaders is to ensure that they are optimising their business success through the development of their teams. Developing Teams: The leader's role provides a varied collection of practical activities designed to benefit both leaders and teams helping leaders to understand their role and giving teams the opportunity for collective learning.

The core of the pack is divided into 20 training activities; each designed to standalone or to be run in conjunction with others. This is useful as it enables the learning activities to be tailored to local requirements and constraints. Each activity comes with clear guidance notes for the trainer (this may be the team leader), including purpose, application and an explanation of what should happen - its good to be able to visualise the event.

The activities are all given intriguing titles eg `If I didn't think you it judge me, 'L + P & Q' and `More than the sum of the parts'. They catch the imagination and invite you to read more. To accompany the activities is an applications grid; a quick and easy reference for establishing the appropriateness of the activity against the needs of the leader/team. This is a nice touch and provides you with confidence that activities will be productive.

What's more, many of the activities are interactive and importantly - fun. Both essential ingredients for effective sharing and transfer of knowledge. The learning logs provided allow the learner to reflect on issues important to them. These can be kept as both a record of achievement and to initiate change/improvement. …
