MEDICARE PART D NOTICE DUE OCT. 15

Employers whose health care plans include prescription drug benefits must notify Medicare-eligible employees by Oct. 15 of each year whether their drug benefit is "creditable cover- age," meaning that it is expected to cover, on average, as much as the standard Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires that companies provide the notice before the annual Medicare Part D election period, Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 each year for coverage beginning Jan. 1.

HEALTH CARE REFORM WEBSITE LAUNCHED

The federal government has launched a one-stop Health Care Changes website to provide employers with state-by- state information on their options and responsibilities under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The website, at http://business.usa.gov/healthcare, connects busi- nesses to information on tax credits and other PPACA provi- sions from the Small Business Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Treasury Department. It includes a wizard tool that is tailored to a company's size and location. …
