As someone in my first year of teaching, I am curious to know what the average teaching career is like. I have heard of the "rule of three years" before moving to a new place and that the average teacher works at six schools in their career.

I spent 37 years at my first school. I would have stayed until I was 60 but unfortunately I was old and expensive.

The "rule of three years" was probably invented by ruthless types who are not interested in actual teaching but in the salaries that can be had as they slither their way up the corporate ladder.
