Verdi's Requiem - all huge choruses, trumpets of judgment, and absolute sonic splendour - is an undeniable tingler of a work. So what to make of Stefan Zaniuk and Cato Loco's wild, funked up and very brassy version?

For starters, you might say that jazz woodwind specialist Zeniuk has cut the Requiem down to a wake. But in the hands of Gato Loco, a New York street band, it is a danceable response to the Verdi classic. What the original has in the magnificence department, this one has in the irreverence stakes: there's no other way to explain the transmogrification of the 'Dies Irae' (Day of Wrath ) into the lurching guitars and warbling saxophones of'Die You Sucka! …
