Careers in Taxation on the 'Hot' Track

U.S. News World & Report, in a special career guide edition, cited tax accounting as one of the top 20 careers with plenty of future growth potential. The conclusion was based in part on the Bureau of Labor Statistics which says the number of job slots in this field could jump by as much as 40% by the year 2005.

Of more immediate note is the 1993 tax act, which some have labeled the "Full Employment Act of 1993" for accountants and tax lawyers. The tax act has created wide-spread confusion for virtually every taxpayer, ranging from low-income retirees to billion dollar multi-national corporations. CPA and law firms of all sizes, as well as internal corporate tax departments, have not fielded as many questions since the Tax Reform Act of 1986. The are still many areas of law to be clarified by regulations and court cases.

Moreover, state and local governments, as the Federal government reduces its funding to them, have become more aggressive in their tax collection and enforcement efforts. …
