Where did the time go? At the close of an eventful year for Variety, it's hard to believe that this is our final regular issue of 2013.

We've made enormous changes at every level of our organization, from the shift to a weekly print cycle to a revitalized, paywall-free Variety.com to key additions to our editorial staff, most recently with the hire of Wall Street Journal alum Alexandra Cheney as senior film reporter.

Our mandate is to leverage the combined strength of our digital and print operations to serve our industry readership with breaking news, analysis, trend stories, deep dives and data to inform and enlighten in a fast-changing business landscape.

Since the relaunch of our print edition in March, we've taken the measure of the talent agency business; explained the Google Glass privacy conundrum; pushed the new mayor of Los Angeles to address runaway production; scrutinized the escalation of sports-rights fees; raised the howmuch-is-too-much question regarding sex on pay TV; and examined the shortcomings of multiplatform audience measurement, among other bigpicture topics. …
